The Boat Shed Cafe & Bistro, Queenstown

We got back to sunny (and rainy!) Singapore a couple of days back; and am finally getting over the jetlag! So instead of retreating to bed by 10pm like I did the past few nights, I am finally awake enough to blog about a lovely cafe by the shores of Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown, New Zealand. A cosy little place called The Boat Shed.

I know it's unlikely many of you would drop by New Zealand anytime soon, but if you happen to visit in the next year or so, do check out this place! We happened to be staying a short distance away from the town centre; and this cafe was just a 2 min walk from our accommodation.

I really like the way they did up this place - the recycled wood look for the interiors; unfinished recycled wooden tables and benches; the tasteful black and white theme for the enclosed outdoor seating area. The filtered sunlight that morning certainly made the outdoor seating area bright and cheery, but not overly sunny nor hot.

The cooked breakfast items on the menu were not cheap though - if my memory doesn't fail me the breakfast plates were in the range of around $17 to $20. But aside from breakfast items that had to be ordered, there was also a display shelf of some pastries and (more affordable) small bites.

Since we had plans for an early lunch that day, we decided to go with a sticky bun (kind of like a cinnamon roll with generous portions of caramel and almond slivers) and just one cooked breakfast order. They were both really good.

The breakfast plate - with sourdough toast, fluffly scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, grilled tomatoes, mushroom and... black pudding. Then I didn't actually know what black pudding was - but we abandoned the little black piece halfway when it tasted suspiciously peculiar. A google search later revealed that black pudding is typically made of pig blood. It was indeed a good idea to trust our intuition.

There was also an option of hanging out at the nice wooden chairs on the deck by the lake. The floor and seats were wet from an overnight rain though - but I can so imagine spending a leisurely morning sitting by the lake and taking in the sights.

Have I tempted you enough to go visit some time? :)
