3 simple ideas for toast breakfast

Some weeks ago when I was feeling pretty enthusiastic about cooking and waking up early to make breakfast for D, I tried out various simple and wholesome ideas to make toast. One was inspired by a Martha Stewart Everyday Food article; one was a replication of a photo I saw on Pinterest; and the last one is a modification of what my mum once made for me :)

So here goes - 3 simple ideas for that 2 slices of Gardenia wholemeal toast:

1) One Egg Toast

This was suggested by Everyday Food as something kids could try or help to make. It looks relatively pretty impressive/ delicious, and is relatively simple and fun to make.

Simply use a cookie cutter to make a hole in your bread, remove the cut-out and put the bread in the oven for a little bit to make it crusty. Remove from oven, break an egg into the hole in the bread, and sprinkle some salt and pepper to taste. If you like, you can add some cheese bits or basil too :) Gingerly put the tray of egg-toasts back into the oven to cook. NB: The egg white may spill out a little at the bottom of the toast, but once baked, it should not be runny. If anyone wants the detailed instructions to make this, let me know!

2) Geometric cucumber toast

Buy a couple of slim japanese cucumbers; slice one into thin circles and slice/ peel one into thin long strips (Try to avoid the centres of the cucumber so the seeds aren't visible). Toast 2 slices of bread, spread some cream cheese on top and arrange the cucumber pieces on top of the cheese in whatever fashion you like.

2) Avocado honey toast

This is the fastest one - especially if you know the correct way to slice avocados (see video). This was adapted from something similar my nice mum used to make for me. Slice a ripe avocado into thin slices, arrange the flesh neatly on 2 pieces of toast and drizzle honey on top of avocado.

There you go - have fun spicing up your toast!
