Patisserie G

Patisserie G at Millenia Walk is a relatively new kid on the block - and they remind me of Kki in terms of their cake designs, cafe decor and even pricing! With cakes in the range of $8 to $9 per cake, they are definitely targeting higher end consumers. We finally got to try their cakes last Sunday - but unfortunately it was rather disappointing.

I had a slight sore throat - so I didn't really want to try their signature 'G Spot' - which was this dome-shaped dark chocolate mousse cake. We decided on the 'Triomphe' - a cake with 'salted, slightly burnt caramel mousse with layers of hazelnut sponge' as it was one of the more interesting-sounding ones available.

Sad to say - it was not very nice. This came as a surprise to me after seeing some pretty positive reviews in the media. Then again, sometimes it can be a case of smart marketing. The hazelnut sponge was surprisingly hard/ dry for a sponge cake and the caramel mousse didn't feel particularly special. It looked relatively pretty, but that was about it. We thought about trying another cake to give them a benefit of a doubt - but in the end decided against it because we weren't sure we wanted to risk spending another $8 - $9 and end up being disappointed a 2nd time.

Hopefully someone can prove me wrong, in which case I may consider going back again - though perhaps not in the near future..
